Women in Construction Week - That’s a Wrap

Overview:

Holaday-Parks partnered with SMACNA for “Women in Construction Week” which was dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging women to join the growing roles in the construction industry. While the entire month of March was targeted, the week of March 7-11 was the focus. WIC ensures that women know opportunities in the field, office, and technical teams. Only 10% of construction workers are women and only 13% of all construction companies are women-owned. This is why the awareness week was established―to make sure these numbers increase every year.

SMACNA Spotlights HP’s Marti Klein

The week started with SMACNA of Western Washington spotlighting our very own Marti Klein (CAD Professional), recognizing her outstanding work in construction. Marti joined Holaday-Parks at the start of her mechanical drafting career and has been with us ever since. We asked Marti how being a woman in construction impacts her and she explained… “Being a female in a male-dominated industry means having to prove myself as knowledgeable and build trust with individuals to ensure they can believe in me.” When asked what advice she can give women thinking about entering the construction field she answered, “The sky is the limit… work hard and take advantage of all the learning opportunities that cross your path. Who knows—that next opportunity might be working on the Space Needle!”

 Congrats Marti for this achievement!

Local 32 Plumbers and Pipefitters Spotlights HP’s Liz Diesn

Also recognized by Local 32 was HP’s own Liz Diesner. Congrats on this well-deserved Spotlight.

Rosie’s Closet Clothing Drive

As part of WIC Week, the Washington Women in Trades (WWIT) hosted a clothing drive. WWIT sponsors a women’s work clothes clearinghouse called “Rosie’s Closet”. The clearinghouse supplies female apprentices and others new to skilled trade occupations with the needed gear. Job site clothing is expensive and not readily available, but Rosie’s Closet is committed to reducing those barriers to women in the trades. They provide easy access to the gear needed for women to be ready to work and be safe on the job.

Holaday-Parks rallied and collected clothes (104 items!) and raised additional funds for the cause.

Thanks to all who supported and donated―we exceeded our goal!
