Holaday-Parks is Making Cities Safer by Installing Firefighter Air Replenishment Systems (FARS)

Firefighter Air Replenishment Systems (FARS) are installed inside hi-rise buildings and deliver breathable air to a firefighter’s SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) during a fire emergency. The system is a permanently installed arrangement of pipes, valves, fittings, and equipment acting as a standpipe for air to firefighters. Without FARS, firefighters must shuttle heavy cylinders up and down stairways which is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and causes unnecessary risk and fatigue. Watch the video below to learn why this system is so important!

City officials across the US are committing to keeping firefighters and their communities safe. Many larger cities are adopting building codes requiring the installation of Firefighter Air Replenishment Systems (FARS) in all newly constructed high-rise buildings. Holaday-Parks has been following these requirements and is ready to help contractors comply. With Bellevue, Washington, recently adopting the requirement— Holaday-Parks had the privilege of installing a FARS in the 1001 Office Tower project in Bellevue’s downtown core.

1001 Office Tower Project:

Holaday-Parks partnered with the Howard S. Wright team providing the mechanical systems for the 1001 Office Tower Project in Bellevue, which included a Firefighter Air Replenishment System (FARS). The project encompassed two 15-story towers totaling 716,584 sq ft. The buildings feature a restaurant, and retail space on the ground levels, with seven levels of below-grade parking for each tower. Holaday-Parks was the Mechanical & Plumbing Engineer-of-Record and self-performed: Constructability Review, Value Engineering, Building Information Modeling (BIM), MEP Coordination, HVAC/Piping/Plumbing Systems Fabrication, and Installation, Firefighter Air Replenishment System (FARS), DDC Systems Installation, and led Start-Up/Commissioning.
