Getting to know Jon…
Q: What do you do at HP?
A: I am a BMS Controls Technician, continuing to learn daily. Currently, I am most involved in THE deployment of data halls. I do a fair amount of sensor check-out, IO point verification, hardware and network troubleshooting, and device addressing. On the programming side, I verify and adjust the graphics to represent our Distech/ HVAC systems. This involves renaming all points to match the new phase and aligning them in a professional structure to best represent our equipment in the field.
Q: How long have you been at HP?
A: I have been with HP since the beginning of May 2021. Joining HP has been the best decision I’ve made so far; I’m looking forward to a long career with HP. I just reached my first anniversary at the company and am grateful to be on the team.
Q: What do you like best about working at HP?
A: My favorite part about working with HP has to be the fact that I am trusted to complete my tasks without much oversight. Another favorite part is that all employees help each other when they see someone in need. The support I continue to receive, along with all the training, has been the best I’ve received in any job I’ve worked in the past. I love that in showing interest in a specific project, and my PMs do their best to work me into the schedule without giving me too much to handle. I’ve never worked in an environment with so little stress.
Q: What has been your most iconic project so far?
A: My most iconic project so far has got to be the phase where HP was the BMS vendor support for a new BMS controls company. This was a customer-designed panel where we did not have access to the software, but we supported the hardware side from the IO modules to the field devices. I went into that project knowing nothing of this panel but came out as the subject matter expert. This project left HP with several challenges, and as a team, we came together with solutions to pass this panel through commissioning to the live side.
Q: How did you get started in the building automation industry?
A: Before HP, I worked as an Instrumentation Technician. This industrial mechanical instrumentation position gave me a lot of mechanical experience. Before that, I attended Perry Technical Institute, where I earned my Instrumentation and Industrial Automation certificate.
Q: What is something most people do not know about you?
A: Most people probably don’t know that I have a wife and 3 children—daughters, 5yrs & 10mo, and a son, age 3. Also, I have an identical twin brother.
Q: What are you most excited about in the future?
A: The part of my future I’m most excited about is my career path with HP. I know my drive and passion to learn in this field will stay strong and I don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. I am committed to growing and learning with HP and am glad to be a vital part of this company.
